Group Prenatal Care

This is a new model for delivering prenatal care in which eight to twelve pregnant women and their partners meet for ten sessions throughout their pregnancy. Each meeting is two hours long and includes a brief prenatal appointment with the provider as well as a facilitated discussion about relevant topics including:

  • Prenatal testing
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Appropriate weight gain
  • Discomforts of pregnancy
  • Labor and coping methods
  • Breastfeeding
  • Contraception
  • Immunization decisions
  • Choosing a pediatrician
  • Parenting
  • Newborn Care
  • And more…

Group Prenatal Care works because we learn best from each other – it is a truly empowering model of care! Group Prenatal Care has been shown to improve all pregnancy outcomes including decreasing preterm birth, lowering Cesarean Section rates, and increasing breast-feeding. In addition to the Centering sessions, you may have individual meetings with providers if needed.
